Poster presentation:
Building the evidence base for working with young people - different approaches to a challenging dilemma
Iain Miller and Kirk Green

Abstract
The workshop will invlove participants in discussions around identifying and developing strategies to approach the key issues in relation to developing stop smoking services for young people.

There will be a presentation of two, quite different, models of service delivery, one employing a Specialist Advisor and the other training key health professionals. We shall give an overview / description of each model of delivery, outlining strenghts and weaknesses and look at other examples of work targeting young people in the North East.

The second part of the workshop will give participants opportunities to raise issues releveant and important to their own local situation. These will be debated and discussed. The presenters anticipate the following issues will be raised and will prepare examples of practice in relation to each to stimulate discussion:
- Involving young people in developing services e.g. the use of social marketing.
- What role for the stop smoking services in working with young people - Cessation V's Education V's Combination?
- Comparison of reach and impact of the 2 models of service delivery.
- What does success look like?
- Nicotine Replacement Therapy and how local and national guidance can raise awareness and increase demand for access with young people e.g. DH relaxation on NRT, Smoking bans in public places and development of local protocols.

At the end of the workshop participants will have been able to share experiences and help each other identify possible solutions or ways forward on return to their own localities.
