Mobile technology in support of smoking cessation initiatives in NHS Hammersmith and Fulham
Sheena Macpherson, Business Development Manager, iPLATO Healthcare LTD, London. UK and Tim Roberts, Stop-Smoking Manager, NHS Hammersmith and Fulham, London, UK
Abstract
Our workshop will outline the use of mobile technology in support of Smoking Cessation initiatives within NHS Hammersmith & Fulham.
GP-led Campaigns: iPLATO Patient Care Messaging is a web based texting service integrating to GP administration systems, allowing automated reminders/targeted group messaging. From searches made on the GP system by practice staff, patients across multiple sites were sent a message requesting smoking status and a subsequent message to smokers inviting them to Stop Smoking support. The workshop will explore processes and report on findings.
Social Marketing: M-Reply is a messaging service enabling ‘quitters’ to text in to a number printed on posters etc. (placed in the community) in order to be contacted by an NHS advisor.
The workshop will explore processes and report on findings.
Motivational Messaging: M-Quit supports a smokers quit attempt by sending motivational messages at intervals over a set period. The service is interactive, enabling ‘follow up’ during the quit attempt. The workshop will explore processes and report on findings.
Projects were run in partnership by iPLATO and NHS Hammersmith & Fulham. Tim Roberts (Stop Smoking Service Manager) has confirmed participation.
Audience tasks will include sending SMS messages to the M-Reply service to receive an auto response.
