The conference is organised by Exchange Supplies, social enterprise based in Dorset originally founded to supply services working with illicit drug users with appropriate tools to reduce drug related harm.Smoking cessation was naturally of interest being a related field (smoking is a significant cause of health problems in illicit drug users), and discussions with people in the smoking cessation field about the success of The UK National Drug Treatment Conference led to the development of the idea of staging an annual national smoking cessation conference.
