        Presenter(s)

Julia Moore  Stop Smoking Co-ordinator, Time to Quit Stop Smoking Service, Cannock

Sanden Bassi  Stop Smoking Support Worker, Time to Quit Stop Smoking Service, Cannock

        Abstract

Prior to 2010 Time to Quit was the sole provider of Stop Smoking Services in South Staffordshire. Following the introduction of a Payment by Results model with additional service providers, Time to Quit undertook a three year programme designed to re-engage with previous service users, and local GP registered smokers.

At the time, only 5% of smokers attempting to quit used local Stop Smoking Services.
2010/11: 3,500 previous lost to follow-up clients were targeted over three phases via personalised mailing. 1,750 of the clients were additionally contacted by telephone. 101 clients (2.9%) accessed the service. 89.1% were as the result of the telephone contact.
2011/12: This campaign was designed to target successful 4-week quitters (1,566) that had relapsed prior to week 12. Personalised invites to locally organised health events and telephone calls (where possible) were used. 82 (5.2%) of targeted clients accessed the service. 50% of those accessing the service were as a result of the telephone contact.2012/13: Local GP registered smokers were targeted with support from local practices. Evaluation is ongoing and will be reported at UKNSCC.

Summary: Personalised, flexible targeted approaches re-engage clients with Stop Smoking Services. Time to Quit continue to invest and refine their personalised and flexible targeting methods to build on the success of this approach.
