        Presenter(s)

Fran Faflik  Team Leader, Leeds NHS Stop Smoking Service

Nicky Henderson  Neighbourhood Lead - Stop Smoking Advisor, Leeds NHS Stop Smoking Service

        Abstract

Fresh air babies (FAB) is a recognisable brand that promotes being smoke-free and targets pregnant women and their families. Accessing support makes clients four times more likely to succeed so it's important that the service is perceived as friendly and non judgemental. We're here to provide a helping hand. Clients need to know that if at first they don't succeed they can try, try and try again!

FAB is the result of developing an effective partnership with Leeds Teaching Hospital Trust midwives.  Listening to our target group and responding to their feedback is a central part of our ongoing process of staying current, connected and responsive to their needs.

This poster demonstrates some of the key elements of this process and brings together some of the images and statements that are a part of that journey.

        Presenter biography

Fran Faflik is a Team Leader within the Leeds Healthy Living Services. FAB was launched in 2002 when she came into post to establish a dedicated support service for pregnant smokers and their families. Her previous background has included working within Leeds City Council, Community and Higher Education and The Third Sector, to develop education programmes, training and support and tackling social and health inequalities.

In 2005 she was joined by Nicola Henderson who is now a Neighbourhood lead for one of the most deprived areas of the city. Nicky coordinates and delivers clinical support for pregnant smokers and their families. Women choose to access support primarily via home visits which they find to be often more accessible than a clinical setting. Nicky previously worked within mental health, providing all levels of care, encouraging and assisting service users in activities to enable them to live as independently as possible within the community.
