Abstract
The aim of this project was to deliver training to NHS and non-statutory mental health workers to enable them to either raise the issue of smoking with clients effectively and signpost to stop smoking services, or to deliver intensive stop smoking interventions.
The project was developed within a partnership that involved two separate, neighbouring stop smoking services and the Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership Trust. We also worked with various voluntary mental health partners within the project. The presentation will outline how a new approach to smoking cessation in Mental Health settings was developed. It will include details of needs assessment with both staff and patients, and the development and delivery of training for Mental Health Staff both in the voluntary and statutory sector. Feedback from these training sessions will also be shared. We will discuss how we changed the way we looked at how we measure success within Mental Health settings which led to the development of a new monitoring tool. We will outline the challenges faced, the outcomes and successes, and share key learning and recommendations for anyone thinking of developing similar activity within Mental Health.
