        Abstract

Evidence into Practice- Pregnancy and Evidence into Practice- Generic are two projects undertaken to support local use of the national smoking cessation guidelines (A Guide to smoking cessation in Scotland, 2010) by generating consistency in implementation and fostering more consistent use of the evidence respectively.

The projects aimed to support Boards to act on the evidence and to implement the guidelines (i) generally and (ii) specifically around pregnant women, and identify progress in and issues with their implementation, capture where and how they were implemented effectively and problems overcome, to share learning and examples of good practice with other Boards, to ultimately contribute to meeting targets.

Each was undertaken via the existing NHS Boards Smoking Cessation Co-ordinators Group network – through meetings or phone discussions with Co-ordinators and/or wider stakeholders, workshop sessions at network meetings, gathering examples of protocols/pathways, service models and aspects of services (with some assistance from Smokeline in their regular database updating), and, in order to gain a better insight into services, comparing this with extracts from the national smoking cessation database.  This presentation will report on the findings and key themes which emerged.
