        Abstract

Regulators the world over are struggling with the best way to regulate nicotine containing products – including electroinc cigarettes.  Should they be regulated as tobacco or consumer goods or as medicines like Nicotine Replacement Therapy?

When the Government consulted on how to regulate these products, there was widespread support for medicines regulation from public health community – medical royal colleges, the NHS, ASH, etc.  But there were also important concerns, around the impact of the regulation on the market.  So the MHRA has been coordinating scientific and market research to inform  final decision on regulation of such products and this session will focus on the latest developments in this area.
