        Biography

        Belinda Iringe-Koko is a PhD student in the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health, University College London. Her research is investigating the illicit tobacco market in England, including purchasing patterns, understanding smokers’ knowledge, attitude, views and perspectives towards illicit tobacco and the effect of policies to reduce the supply of illicit tobacco. Belinda previously completed a BSc in Biomedical Sciences at Kings College London and an MSc in Public Health at the University of Essex.

        Ann McNeill is a Professor of Addictions in the National Addiction Centre, and is the deputy director of the UK Centre for Tobacco Control Studies. She has an established international reputation in tobacco control research and has published extensively on the subject. Ann was a co-author of the recent systematic review of tobacco product packaging which underpinned the recent government consultation on plain packaging. Her research ranges across prevention, cessation, harm reduction and local, national and international policy.

        Robert West is Professor of Health Psychology and Director of Tobacco Studies at the Cancer Research UK Health Behaviour Research Centre, University College London, UK. Robert is also Editor-in-Chief of the journal, Addiction and co-director of the NHS Centre for Smoking Cessation and Training. He also provides advice to the English Department of Health and is President of the Society for Research in Nicotine and Tobacco. Robert’s research includes clinical trials of new smoking-cessation treatments, studies of the acute effects of cigarette withdrawal, and population studies of smoking patterns. He recently contributed to a House of Lords enquiry into behaviour change interventions.

        Andy McEwen is Assistant Director of Tobacco Studies and Senior Research Associate at the Cancer Research UK Health Behaviour Research Centre, University College London. Andy is Executive Director of the NHS Centre for Smoking Cessation and Training and Programme Director of the UK National Smoking Cessation Conference. Andy is a Senior Editor of the journal Addiction, referees for a variety of other academic journals and also acts as a consultant to the English Department of Health and to a number of primary care trusts and overseas governments on the delivery of smoking cessation treatment services.
