Melanie McIlvar  Director, National Centre for Smoking Cessation and Training (NCSCT), London

        Abstract

Monitoring existing service provider performance provides essential information that can be used to inform current and future configuration, commissioning and delivery of local services. It improves our understanding of how effectively services are working as well as identifies opportunities for improvement.

To support and complement local monitoring of stop smoking services, the NCSCT has developed an independent review service that supports local commissioners and service providers to demonstrate whether the support they provide meets minimum standards of care and data integrity.

This presentation will provide an overview of the model and summarise the main (anonymised) findings from those services that have undergone a review so far; providing suggestions for both local service commissioners and providers about how minimum standards of treatment can be achieved.
