Louise Ross  Stop Smoking Service Manager, Leicester

        Lorien Jollye

        Abstract

The Leicester City Stop Smoking Service was the first in the UK to go ecig-friendly, and this presentation describes some of the key learning moments that have made this a reality, as well as some of the challenges encountered along the way. With Lorien Jollye, an experienced vaper and advocate for a person-centred approach to health improvement, Louise tackles the dilemmas posed by incorporating this 'disruptive technology' into what was once a very straightforward smoking cessation treatment programme.

What should stop smoking advisors and other healthcare professional say about ecigs? How can they increase their knowledge? What skills are needed to work with both licensed products and unlicensed ecigs to get to the endpoint that the service user is seeking: to stop using combustible cigarettes?

The presentation aims to encourage those working in smoking cessation to listen to users, to not wait for instructions, but to work with what we have now to help people stop smoking.

Source of funding: The Leicester City Stop Smoking Service is commissioned by the Public Health Department of Leicester City Council
