        Biography

        Martyn Willmore is Performance Improvement Delivery Manager at Fresh, the North East tobacco control office. After graduating from Royal Holloway, University of London in 1995, Martyn worked for the NHS Business Services Authority as Senior Service Improvement Manager. From there he moved to West Midlands Strategic Health Authority as their Performance Manager, before joining Fresh in August 2008. Martyn`s primary role is working with NHS/Local Authority partners to ensure the continued delivery of world-class stop smoking support to the North East population. He also chairs the North East Network of Tobacco Control Alliances. Martyn has managed the implementation of the babyClear programme since 2012.

        Dr Ruth Bell trained in medicine, specialising in public health, completing her degree at Cambridge University and post-graduate studies at Newcastle University. She currently works as Lecturer/Honorary Senior Registrar in Public Health at Newcastle University, conducting research on maternal and perinatal health, with a particular focus on the problem of maternal obesity and diabetes. This work seeks to improve outcomes for women and infants by investigating the determinants of adverse outcome and developing and evaluating interventions to improve outcomes. As Associate Director at the Regional Maternity Survey Office (RMSO) Ruth supports the regional clinical audit of pregnancy in women with diabetes. She also holds an honorary consultant contract with Public Health England.
