        Abstract

A thriving smoking culture exists within mental health services. We expect and accept it in our hospitals. Historically, we have avoided treating tobacco dependence during an inpatient stay or when receiving community mental health treatment. In this presentation Debbie will highlight the gaps that exist between the clinical treatment of people with mental illness who smoke and smokers in the general population, as well as the gaps that exist around the education of mental health workforce. Initiatives for improving the infrastructure, treatment and training pathways within mental health services will also be discussed.

Source of funding: Debbie is part funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care, South London.
