        Abstract

Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust has wrestled, with the support of Louise Ross, Stop Smoking Service Manager, Leicester City Council, with the practicalities of having in-patients use e-cigarettes. Cigalikes or rechargeables? Could they be used as a weapon? What if someone drank the liquid? Who manages the supply chain?

The one guiding light in this gloom was the consistent theme from patients: 'I want to stop smoking, and I want to use one of those ecigs.'

Initially intended to be a small pilot, the interest from other wards, other patients, gained momentum, and staff too who smoked were quick to see the benefit, for themselves, of switching from smoking to a device that gave them clean nicotine.

In this presentation, Louise describes the journey, the obstacles, the solutions, and finally the outcomes and results.
