        Abstract

This service is a partnership project between Public health Camden, Camden CCG and Camden and Islington Foundation Trust.

It is one of the first specialist smoking cessation or reduction services for people on the GP SMI registers, with a diagnosis of psychosis and Bipolar Affective disorder.  The service was set up in light off the   disproportionately high prevalence of smoking in this population group, which is around 70% compared to 18% in the general public. This results in reduced life expectancy of up to 20years and a further reduction of up to 18years of good health.

The service was commissioned to run from March 2013 until March 2015 and follows an assertive integrated model of service delivery, crossing over both Primary and secondary care settings.

It offers an extended 6 month treatment programme which includes both pharmacological and 1:1 behavioural and social support. The service is staffed by experienced mental health professionals who have received smoking cessation training. One of the identified targets is to engage 15% of the SMI population in Camden totalling 300 service users.
